The Little Things

Now and again I'd like to share what often happens in our day or week that reminds me that God cares about all the details of our lives. Often people put these little things down to good luck. I don't believe in luck. I believe in consequences for the choices we make and that others make; I believe in the principle that we reap what we sow; but I also believe in grace - getting what we don't deserve - and that God shows us His grace in many little, mundane, everyday ways, if we could just recognise them as His grace and not attribute them to coincidence or luck or something else.

So, I will be sharing what happens to us on a regular basis, breadcrumbs if you like, to encourage you to look for yours.

 

For example, about a week ago, our fridge died, after struggling valiantly on for several months after one lightning strike, and then taking another major hit with a blackout. Why is that so interesting? Because it just so happened that it broke down properly on a day when we could do something about it, not before, not after. Had it broken down before, we would have had to fight to keep stuff cold in our big esky, which is difficult when it's nearly 40 degrees outside every day and only drops to 32 degrees at night. Had it broken down a day later, on the first day of a long weekend, we would have to fight to keep stuff cold for 4 days in similar conditions. But on that day, Dave and I were both able to go and look together for a fridge, and our daughter was free to go and pick it up, and her and Dave were both available to bring it in. A coincidence? Nope - a God-incidence.

Matthew 6:31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
