I Like Long

Here we are for Five Minute Friday to write for five minutes on a one word prompt.  Click on the link at the bottom if you would like to read the rules and join in!  Today's word is Long.

I love reading long emails, the personal kind, that is, not those long ones you get sent about the latest political or religious or cultural issue of importance.   Long emails that are meaty and rich and full of details, big and little, about the lives of those you care about.

I love reading long stories, stories that are involved and detailed of characters that are real and have depth to them.   I don't mind shorter stories (300-500 pages) but I really like long stories, or trilogies, where you really get to know the characters and miss them when you're finished.   Like Penelope Wilcox's six-book series, The Hawk and The Dove, or Francine Rivers' Mark of the Lion series.

I love long blog posts.   Yeah, I know, none of us have time to read them, most of the time, but if we take the time, they're usually worth the effort.   Long posts about real people trying to live Godly lives, who are struggling with real issues and who don't have easy or short answers to offer.

Long.  In this day of short, quick, easy, shallow, quick responses and articles, I like long.   How about you?

    1. Thanks, Hope, for your encouragement. I hadn't thought of my approach as thoughtful, but that suits me fine.
I always enjoy your posts, and try to follow your blog regularly.

    1. Thanks, Richelle. Long is good! It seems there is so much these days that is short, easy, convenient, but long is nourishing. We need more long.

    1. Thanks, Katha. I LOVE long letters too, which I thought of once I'd finished and sent it. Never mind, that's what FMF is about - unedited.
I'm really enjoying looking around your blog. Good to read some German, too. Been a while since I did that.

  4. I hadn't really thought about many of your long-ideas, but I guess I kinda "like long" too! :)

    1. Thanks, Carol, for your encouragement. I think we all like long, in this 'quick' day and age. I love modern technology, but I do long for simpler days of long letters, long conversations, even long drives to the nearest good-sized town.

  5. I love long, too. Especially because that usually means I have a spare ten minutes to myself, which is rare. Thanks for sharing your thoughts is morning!

    1. Yes, long means we have time alone to read and comprehend it, and that's always nice.
      Thanks for the encouragement.

    1. Thanks, Ruth. I love the Hawk and the Dove especially. I have read the six books each year for the last few years, takes a long time for me to get through them, but that's best 'cause the lessons are so rich and relevant, even though the characters lived in Medieval times.
