As I sit here on a hospital bed, day #8, waiting to heal, I'm very aware that healing takes time and it has to happen from the inside out. Oftentimes, a lack of healing is evident on the outside, but healing itself happens on the inside.
After a year long journey of internal healing, I've learnt that so much of the healing has to happen in secret, in the quiet, just you and Him, as you get down low enough to touch the hem of His garment. And He very much meets you there.
Sometimes, you need help along the way; like nurses and doctors with physical healing, so you need friends and pastors with the internal healing.
He works in the praying, in the spoken word, in the hugs, in the phone calls, in the words of wisdom, and words of knowledge, in the laying on of hands and in a myriad of other ways that His people touch us.
I've also learnt not to limit HOW He heals.
The great Healer works in the whisper, in the quietness, in the forced rest, in the weeping, in the waiting, in times of worship, in the walks in nature. In all of it, He directs the healing in His way, in His time, if we'll just stay with the process.
And like sitting on a hospital bed when you'd much rather be elsewhere, we need to stay in the process of healing when we'd rather give up because it's too hard or taking too long. We need to submit to the Great Physician. He knows what He's doing.
Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed;
Save me, and I shall be saved,
For You are my praise. Jeremiah 17:14
You are the Maker of my heart
You are the Healer of my scars
God, I will trust in who You are
You are good, You speak life.....

May the Lord continue to be with you and bring complete healing.
ReplyDeleteJoanne, thank you. Healing is slowly happening.
DeleteMay He bless and keep you
ReplyDeleteand soothe you with His presence,
as you take the long road through
healing's gracious essence.
May He guide the doctors' hands,
place wisdom in their hearts,
and help others understand
how they might play their parts.
From nurses, friends, and family
to pastors come a-calling,
let each interaction be
reminder of the falling
rain of beauty and of love
from His Heaven up above.
Beautiful prayer poem, Andrew!
